The Rhythmic Dance of Awareness
Contact, Connection, Flow
Amani in Kiswahili means peace, harmony, tranquility, and freedom from fear. When someone has acquired a deep sense of being at peace in one’s own body-mind, there is a quiet sense of settling into the present moment. We all need some time to put the outer world on pause and turn our attention inward. Yoga offers us this time to pause and slow down and allow the silence to soothe our souls and nourish our spirits. When our body is still and the mind is absorbed in silence, a sense of peace washes over us and we realize that doing nothing is absolutely acceptable.
This practice of inquiry and insight is the signature of Amani Yoga. She invites students to bring curiosity, courage, and compassion to their mat as they sense, feel, and explore new ways of moving in the yoga poses and in their life.
Yoga with Amani is an invitation to move slowly and mindfully breath by breath step by step. Students are gently reminded to slow down and linger long enough to notice the space between each breath and each pose. Over time the students become aware of habits, patterns and preferences they have and without criticism or judgment make choices that support their intention to move in the world with less effort and more ease.
