Massage therapy is a type of treatment in which a trained and certified medical professional manipulates the soft tissues of your body — muscle, connective tissue, tendons, ligaments and skin — using varying degrees of pressure and movement. Massage soothes the nervous system, improves immune response, increases release of oxytocin the compassion hormone and increases dopamine and serotonin the mood hormones. Massage also has the benefits of improving circulation, relieving tension, reducing stress, relieving anxiety, improving sleep, and promoting relaxation throughout the entire body. Clients who have experienced trauma due to surgery, inflammation due to stress, or tension due to poor posture benefit greatly from massage.
